7 Dear Mr. Prime Minister: It is my pleasure to offer you my warmest congratulations as you assume the office of President of the Government of Spain. Meeting the challenges that confront us worldwide will not be easy, but I am confident that we will succeed. The bonds of friendship that unite our two countries and the mutual support of the community of democratic nations will sustain us as we work toward a freer and more peaceful world. A strong and cooperative relationship between Spain and the United States is vital to that process, and I assure you of our continued support for Spanish democracy. I look forward with pleasure to working closely with you as we address the many serious issues confronting the world today.
